You are born of incorruptible seed
Reflections on 1 Peter 1:23
“For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.”
Incorruptible seed means it cannot be decayed. It is pure and trustable.
Farmer gets seed from trustable source and he sows them.
You are washed by the blood of Christ Jesus, the most trustable source.
You have been born again, regenerated… I have been regenerated. I have been born. The first birth was the natural birth, where my mom gave birth to me. The second birth was the one the Spirit instigated, and the Bible says it is not natural—it is spiritual.
The spiritual birth is the real one, the one that is more potent than any natural birth. The greatest moment of man is his unification with God. So the natural birth is one thing, but the spiritual birth is the one that matters most because it unifies me back to God.
In 1 John 5:4, we read, “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world.” Notice that John specified “whatever is born of God,” not whoever. He was referring to a person, but also to a nature. That is my understanding. It is the nature of the new man. This new nature cannot sin; it is incorruptible. Do you know why it is incorruptible? God’s seed remains in the new man. What is the seed?
Sins: You commit from flesh or unrenewed mind.
1. God’s Incorruptible Word Gives New Birth
The Word of God is the “seed” that brings new life (cf. Luke 8:11). There is an inherent divine power in the Word of God that brings about spiritual birth in the hearts of sinners who receive it by faith (cf. James 1:18; Romans 1:16–17). Just as God accomplished the creation of all things by the power of His Word, He also designed to accomplish re-creation of man in Christ Jesus through His incorruptible Word. The Holy Spirit releases the dynamic power of the Word of God to bring about salvation (cf. Romans 1:16; Titus 3:5).
2. God’s Word Is the Incorruptible Seed
Here the word used for “incorruptible” in the original language of the New Testament Scripture is aphthartos… This Greek word refers to something that is not liable to corruption or decay. The same word is used to describe the incorruptible nature of the Almighty God in 1 Timothy 1:17. This implies clearly that as much as God’s nature is incorruptible, so is His Written Word. God’s Word is not liable to corruption because its Author has set His seal of protection over it (cf. Psalm 12:6–7).
3. God’s Incorruptible Word Lives and Abides Forever
“The word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: but the word of the Lord endureth for ever” (vv. 23b–25a).
Peter further describes the incorruptible Word of God as that “which liveth and abideth for ever.” The contrast being made here is between the frailty of man and the permanence of God’s Word that saved him. It lives and abides intact forever.
4. God’s Incorruptible Word Does Not Fall Away
Every man and his riches, wisdom, power and glory will fade away like the flower of grass. But once he is born-again by the Word of God, he will be made a new creature, and his glory will not fade like a flower, but shine like an angel of God in heaven (cf. Daniel 12:3).
5. God’s incorruptible word brings you divine destiny
When God gives a word like in the verse (cf. Isaiah 55:10): “As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater.”
When God gives a word he is bound to fulfill it since his word stands forever. God is looking to fulfill promise more than we ourselves.
